Denglish to English in easy steps
In english when you talk about the amount of time that has passed since an action or event took place, you need to use the word ago. This word always comes after the time expression.
That is one of the many little differences between the two languages. In German the word “vor” means both before and ago and, depending on the context, it appears in front of the time phrase in a sentence. So in this case, translating the sentence in your head, directly from german into english does not work!
I will take a closer look at the other words you might use when talking about events that happened earlier or took place in the past. Words like since, until and before.
