My favourite english idiom
Sam from the english to go team loves the idiom the “bees knees”.
You can see the meaning of the phrase here.
If she says something is “the bees knees”, take note, it means she thinks that something is wonderful.
It is a very British english idiom, it is not widely used by people in the USA, Canada or Australia.
The phrase sounds very old fashioned, but it is not as old as the drawing of the bee and both of its knees, above. That is by the dutch botanist Maria Merian. This and other drawings were published in 1719 in a book she wrote about insect life in Suriname, a country in South America.
